The 7th April workshop was very busy, it also was very windy. Lots of trees worked on including Larch, Hawthorns, Blackthorns Spruce, Scots Pines, Box and many more. There were a lot of trees brought for sale, which sold well.
Later in the afternoon the shade house was erected.

The 3rd March workshop started cold, with a frost. This did not stop several members working outside. The not so hardy ones were inside the workshop. Many trees were repotted including Larch, Hornbeam, Elms, and many more.
There was a huge Yew that was carved also.
Unfortunately, due to a camera malfunction there are less pictures than usual.

The February workshop was on a mild day compared to the January one. Plenty of work on a variety of trees including carving on a Scots Pine, Junpers pruned and wired Larch pruned and wired, plus many more
The January workshop, the first of 2024 was a cold day. Trees were worked included hawthorn, Beech, Pines and Larch as well as Junipers. The cold meant that most stayed inside, but three hardy types were working outside.
Next workshop is 4th February when hopefully it will be a little warmer.

The workshop on 3rd December was a cold one, so everyone was working inside. There were plenty of trees worked on including a huge Hawthorn, some smaller ones plus Scots Pines and a Juniper.

The November workshop was the first for almost three months. It was a colder windy but dry day. Lots of trees were worked including Hawthorn, Yew, Stewartia, Maples, Elm, White Pine and many more.
The August workshop on 6th was a cooler day but dry apart from a shower. As always lots of trees and lots of work done on them. The trees included Pines, Junipers Box and many more.
The July workshop was in contrast to the June one a cold windy day.
This did not stop the members who came from working on many different species outside. Species included Satsuki having flowers removed, Acers, Larch Pines and many more.

The workshop on 3rd June was the first full workshop for three months and it was the warmest for a year! Plenty of trees were worked on especially Acers, but also a White Beech had several branches that were dead removed. There was also a Pine that was bent even further.

Weekend in Glanaman Wales
Members of the group along with members from Blackmore Vale Bonsai Group and Salisbury Bonsai Society as well as Dragon Bonsai spent a weekend in Wales eating sleeping and working on their bonsai.
Friday evening was a visit to the fish and chip shop and for others kebabs.
Then the work continued with some still there at 3am.
Next morning work was already underway at 7am., and the we stopped for breakfast. After breakfast the work started again. too many species to mention all, but Junipers, Pines, Larch etc., etc. The five guest artists helping were Peter Warren, Simon Temblett, Tony Oswin, Andrew Arthur and Roy Hutchinson.
With a break for lunch work continued through the afternoon.
The evening meal was excellent with a choice of Curry or lasagna.
Then there was a short auction with some strong bidding conducted by Tony Oswin.
Work started again and continued at a slower pace than the night before.
Then on Sunday Morning work before breakfast was a lot less as the clocks had changed and those coming in for breakfast were a lot slower.
Then after breakfast pruning wiring and styling continued for the morning to lunchtime.
The afternoon saw a slowing of work as a lot had been completed, and later everyone were able to watch a masterclass repotting by Peter Warren.
The date for next year is already set and places booked for the weekend.

Re potting was the main order of the day, with many different species re potted including Pines, Birch, Box Maples and more. There was some serious bending done on a Pine as well. Tony worked on the Pine that he got from Dan Barton, pruned and wired now looks very different and better.
Chris looked at a number of trees as well, talking about and asking for opinions.

The February workshop was very busy with numerous trees worked, with some re potted or carved and prune. The a large Redwood twin tree was discussed by the group, with Chris Thomas and many opinions given. The the trees were pruned wired and finally carved by Tony Oswin. Next meeting is 5th March.

the 5th and 6th of November was a workshop with Kevin Willson at Glanamman in Wales. Several members made the trip.
They were treated to a weekend or carving by the best. Each day Kevin worked on trees from raw material to semi finished. Here are some of the pictures

On a very warm day the group worked on many different trees including a nice Hawthorn, a large Olive as well as several Pines. Those who could found some shade.
The sale at Southwick was another huge success. Setting up on Saturday was done by mid afternoon, and the Barbeque was excellent. It remained dry but windy.
Sunday dawned dry with the threat of rain which did not materialise apart from some light drizzle and a short light shower.
Cars were streaming in from early both sellers and buyers, and tress and pots and all sorts were disappearing fast.
It was another excellent day.

The July workshop was as good as always with work on the usual species, Scots Pines, Larch, Juniper and a first carving on an Olive. It was cool to start but warmed up later, with only a shower during the morning.
The June workshop started quite cold, but warmed later. Plenty of work was done including pruning and wiring. Species included Scots Pines, Stewartia, White Beech, Larch and more.

The workshop on 1st May was a damp one, but this did not effect the members or the work they were doing. Several members were preparing trees for the Expo show on 8th May.
The workshop on 3rd April was a good workshop as always. There were the usual suspects present, with at least one face not seen for some time. Trees worked included several Scots Pines, a large Yew and some Larch.

Celtic Bonsai Weekend 25th to 27th March
Eight members of Staverton Bonsai Group made their way to the venue near Ammanford in Wales.
Arriving, cars were unloaded and everyone said hello to the rest of the group that had arrived earlier. Total of about 20.
Then some of us made our way to the fish and chip shop, returning to the hall. Then work started on trees and continued late into the night!
Next morning after breakfast, work was already happening, and after Chris Thomas introduced the teachers the work continued.
Saturday evening dinner was excellent, and then there was an auction run by Tony Oswin.
Then we had a short presentation by Andy on yamadori.
After this Tony and Roy styled a Scots Pine that had been wired over the last 2 hours belonging to Trev Banbury.
Work continued into the small hours even though the clocks changed.
In the morning Tony had been recruited to cook the breakfast, which was very good and then back to work.
The weather was warm and sunny all weekend, the company was great and there were a lot of very good trees at the end of the day.

On the 6th March we has a very busy re potting workshop. It was a chilly but dry day, and some were able to work outside, but the less hard were inside.

The workshop on 6th February was very busy with the overspill outside under the cover .Although it was very windy it did remain mainly dry. Trees worked in included a large Scots Pine wired, a big Larch being carved a Pyracantha defoliated, and many more. The next workshop is on 6th March.
The workshop on 2nd January was the first of 2022. It was a dry start but rain later. Some carving on a Privet was done as well as work on a White Beech, a couple of Larch, Hawthorn and Junipers, also a Mugo Pine with a change of style. It was a good day. The next meeting is on 6th February.
5th December was the last workshop of the year, and the first time this year the door was closed and the heating on. Trees worked on included a large Yew, a large Pine some smaller Pines and a Sabina Juniper. Also worked were Maples a Chinese Elm and a Mulberry.

The day was cold but sunny and as usual there was a good turnout of members.

The October workshop on 3rd October was much cooler than previous workshops. The numbers were slightly down partly due to scarcity of fuel.
The work done was excellent, with several Scots Pines styled. Also worked were some Junipers and a Large Larch.

The workshop on 5th September was the best ever attendance with 17. Work on so many trees it is difficult to list all, Scots Pines and Junipers as well as many others.
